For those of you not in the know of how the R6 time line works, Vegas 2 picks up just before the shenanigans detailed in Raven Shield.
This is by far one of the more complex additions to the R6 saga.
The single Player mode in Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 includes both campaign/storyline mode (which follows a series of linear "scenes" and "act's" in which you must rescue hostages, defuse bombs, catch terrorists and generally "Unleash some whoop Ass" on the bad guys), as well as the classic Terrorist Hunt included in the previous instalments of R6.
When playing Terrorist Hunt mode you are given the option to play with a pair of AI's that you control via commands, or you can play as LONE WOLF (On your own). I found the Lone Wolf mode more preferable, as having "Team Mates" tends to be a hindrance due to them not actually being that "Artificially Intelligent"..... no matter what you do, they get themselves shot.
As well as the obvious objective of kill the bad guys/ save (as many) of the good guys as possible, there is also the objective of point scoring. With each kill you or your "Team Mates" get, your Avatar gains experience points, and what do experience points mean ladies and gentlemen....... That’s right, bigger guns and better clothing/Camouflage.
Once again, this mode really boosts up those experience points, and this is a very good way to hone your skills and enable you to take the step from Easy to Medium, or Medium to Elite skill levels.
Ubisoft have really done a number on this game. With the assistance of Epic Games Unreal Engine 3, the playability is fluid even on lower spec machines, which is important for all users from the 5 minute player all the way through to the professional full time gamer. Graphics wise the game is very detailed.
Some quite quirky advertising has been used throughout this game. As well as real products from movies like Tropic Thunder, Indiana Jones and Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay through to some slightly more important products like Trojan Condoms and Battlefield: Bad Company which gives the player an added sense of realism.
In all this is possibly one of the most seminal PC games to have come out of 2008…. If you don’t include Mass Effect or World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King
8/10 (It would have been 9, but the developer forgot to include the ability to mod maps)
