BacK2GraW are excited about......

Hello again everyone!
At B2G we are always looking forward in anticipation that someone is going to release the next wonder game (read: an FPS that we collectively like!), but we are not just excited/expectant about the FPS genre, no!
As gamers (and ranters) we get a little hot under the collar when any new game tries to push the boundaries or seems to have had some serious Dev effort, so i thought it would be good to share some of the games that we are looking forward to, be it for next week or next year!

Lets start with a very, very soon to be released game..... Ghost Recon Future Soldier

Now, rather predictably, this game appeals to us.... but boy does it have some big boots to fill!
For those of you that follow my Twitter endevours (@OldFlads / @back2graw just incase you don't lol), you will have known that i recently played the beta for this on my trusty XBOX 360 and had some mixed feelings. It is probably best to mention that it was a beta and subsequently I'm not going to hammer it just yet as i appreciate that changes can/should be made prior to release. However I will state that my concern is the game Engine. There is every chance that they were holding back a few key parts of the engines ability to generate graphical content but the initial surroundings felt very 'old pc game'. For those of you that are over the age of 15 you will understand what i mean, but for those that didn't experience old pc game engines, lets just say the environmental immersion is somewhat missing. Buildings felt a bit like they were 3d drawings as opposed to actual elements of the map and the general feel of the graphics left alot to be desired! BUT.....

The gameplay is the strongest point about this game by far. The mechanics felt well thought out and really nailed towards team orientated play but still allowed for the lone wolves to run and gun in true arcade style. This is important to any game that is released in this period of time because although attempts have been made to drag people back into the community spirit (see BF3), the mainstream fps fan (12 - 25 year olds) for some reason crave poorly developed and stagnant; run, kill, die, repeat gameplay (see any COD game after WaW). The current trend is trying to revert that process against the strong tide that is Modern Warfare and this can only be a good thing! It would be really nice to see an 8 player co-op mode or even the return of the terrorist hunt maybe just try and really point the boat in the right direction, but alas we can only hope the next gen consoles take it upon themselves to try to get the community back2gether!

Another strong point is the customisation... which, quite frankly, is vast! I mentioned in my last blog that the customisation was good in GRO, but it hasn't got anything on GR:FS. Every element of the gun can be altered and tweeked to your exact spec, meaning that it is entirely possible for every member of a lobby (your team and enemy) to use the same gun but have it set up in a different way that suits them! Impressive... i think so! Also the kit you carry and the clothes you wear receive the same attention to detail meaning hours could be spent just getting yourself 'suited and booted' for the battle without even testing your weapon on an unsuspecting member of the opposite team..... umm maybe that wasn't worded quite right.... maybe it was?

Are we excited about this game? Well i am certainly. I pre-ordered it! I am looking forward to the opening of extra maps and gamemodes to see how far the guys over at UbiSoft really went in an attempt to challenge the market leaders. Hopefully they managed to recover the failing Ghost Recon Series after the disappointment of GRAW2.... I can't wait to find out!!

Next up into the 'we are wetting ourselves with excitedness....ment...' catorgory is End Of Nations. This may not be familiar to many of you, and admittedly, it wasn't to me until a few months ago! This is the latest offering from Petroglyph Games who were the designers behind the original Command And Conquer. I thought that might grab your attention!
With Trion World publishing, it is claiming to be a new genre of game... the MMORTS. Now i know a few of you will be wondering what that is so let me elaborate briefly.

An RTS is a Real Time Strategy game, where you have to constantly be working on changing tactics to avoid being crushed by the enemy. Now where this changes is when you add 50 other people into the mix... at the same time! Thats right, 51 armies on the same map trying to battle to be the top dog and stake a claim in the history of Earth. With customisable units, vast landscapes and varying skill types this is set to be our favourite game of 2012.
Although still in beta (we are waiting with baited breath for our invite by the way), the video releases have us chomping at the bit to get involved in the development of a game that is truly raising the stakes. It is constantly evolving and updating to draw us further into the story of the Liberation Front and the Shadow Rebellion. We are seeing more and more of a good v evil storyline, but as it is dictated by the players themselves the choice is yours as to whether you think the struggle of each side is noble or dangerously self centered.
You will have to forgive my lack of insider knowledge as i haven't played this game as yet but every bone in my body cannot wait to adapt to a new genre and save/mould the world!!

I'll end on a slightly strange note and say the next game im really looking forward to is the beta release of..... Rainbow 6 : Patriots!
That's right, the game we slated soo heavily in a previous video is actually on the excited list! The reason is simple really, i want to be proved wrong. I want Ubi to completely blow me out of the water and release a stonking engine that can generate beautiful and adaptive environments so that i can live out the RPG/FPS game in utter ecstasy.

Surely they must... they have been promising bigger and better from the latest installment of the long running series and they really have got to get this one right. The R6 saga has been travelling downhill in the eyes of even the most devoted fans and this massive fanbase needs to have its thirst quenched.
We want immersive gameplay, huge squad customisation and the ability to use stealth and cunning from multiple directions to plan and initiate sweeping assaults. If they can get that all in there whilst offering beautiful scenery and reactive landscapes (read better than BF3 and the Frostbite Engine), then they will be someway towards creating game of the Decade in my opinion. Add to that the fact they have a huge dormant fan base, they may well even challenge the King itself.... can Ubi really defeat the COD monster? My god it would be beautiful if they could!
